Greetings friends of Trinity Bible Church,
As Trinity’s Lead Pastor it's been amazing to hear stories of what God is doing in our congregation, but also in our town and our valley. I'm really excited about what's happening at Trinity as we head into 2019.
This past year has been one of encouragement, challenge and growth as we have seen people come and join our church family and take next steps of faith through things like giving, serving, hosting a small group and baptism. Along with this growth has come the challenge and blessing of squeezing people into a very full sanctuary on Sundays!
The elders and I have been prayerfully considering ways to respond to what God is doing. We have kicked off the "Seeking God's Direction" team to research and recommend a long term plan for our facilities and we look forward hearing what they recommend in the spring of 2019. In the short term, it’s become clear that the best way to manage our growth is by offering two services on Sundays.
Beginning January 13, we will have two gatherings on Sunday mornings, beginning at 9:15 and 11:00, along with our Saturday evening worship time which will stay at 6:30pm.
Here's why we're making this shift:
1) Trinity is growing: we have been regularly bumping up against capacity during our current 10:30am service. It's nice to be in a room full of people exploring or growing in their faith and singing praises to our King, but the problem is when the room “feels” full (which is around 70-75% capacity), guests who may be coming for the first time feel like there's no space for them to be a part of our community.
2) It's all about mission. Trinity exists to bring God glory through gospel-centred worship, community and mission. We exist to love God, love people and serve the world. As followers of Jesus, we are all missionaries sent to our respective neighbourhoods, offices, classrooms, gyms, everywhere, every day. While Sunday mornings are only one piece of our spiritual lives, it is a key piece of the puzzle where we gather as family to celebrate wins, carry one another's burdens, and equip and encourage one another to head into the other 167 hours of the week living in light of what God is doing in us and through us. We WANT to welcome more people to church and we need space for them.
3) Opportunities: A second service gives more people more opportunities to use the gifts, talents and abilities God has given each one of us. This is an opportunity for more of us to get connected as part of a team at Trinity and grow in our faith as we serve. Our current ministry teams include musicians, sound and tech operators, teaching Sunday School, nursery, greeters/welcome team, coffee hosts, prayer team.
I know this is going to be a shift in the culture of Trinity, and there may be some growing pains that come with this move. However, this is a moment where we have an opportunity to do something with eternal implications.
So, how can you help?
Pray, pray, pray. (1 Thess 5:17).
Pray for opportunities to invite people to explore faith with us. We will be launching two services with a series studying the Sermon on the Mount.
Pray and consider where you can serve. If you’re not sure, connect with Carolynn or me by email or phone and we can help you find you a spot, perhaps even trying out one or two until together we get the right fit.
Pray that God would continue to use us to build His church (Matt 16:18b)
Thanks so much for reading, I look forward to seeing what God’s going to do through Trinity in 2019.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any of our elders.
Love God, love people,
